Dear Parents,
After a period of very busy activity since our November newsletter, we look forward to our up-coming mid-year break. However, there is still much in the way of news for you to absorb. Please keep a copy of this newsletter close at hand for easy reference.

READING MONTH and RELATED ACTIVITIES These were a resounding success! Many thanks to all parents and students who so generously spent money at the Book Fair. We now look forward to spending the profits made on new library books. Also, the " Take a Book to Bed" activity provided for much enthusiastic participation from students, parents, and teachers. Mostly, though, we should extend our congratulations to all involved in the " Reading Around the World in 30 Days" project. The demonstrations and exhibitions of the different countries represented were very colourful, informative, interactive and educational. Many thanks to Mrs. Wendy Lennon and her team of staff and students for such an encouraging project. BOOK CHARACTER PARADE /FREE DRESS/BARBECUE DAY On Wednesday, 27 December, students will be either allowed to wear their book character costumes as part of our continuing Reading Month activities, in the Primary school, or to wear free dress. However, students must appear decently clothed. No denims/jeans or revealing blouses/shirts are allowed. We will send students home if they are not considered to be appropriately dressed. Students should all pay a donation of 1 O.R. ( or more if they would like ) into the School Charity Fund for this event. A barbecue will be put on at school during break time, so please be aware of this in advance. |
CHOIR PERFORMANCE Well done to all who participated in the choral performance at the Intercontinental Hotel – again a resounding success which even reached the press! DABKEH DANCING A splendid performance took place at the Holiday Inn as part of the cultural activity sponsored by Shell. Our MIS students and participating staff served the school very proudly and very attractively. DRAMA REHEARSALS Rehearsals are going well. This year’s annual school performance itself will take place in February, and certain students will be required to come into school during the holiday. Please refer to the schedule already sent out for confirmation of this. LATENESS TO SCHOOL Must improve, please! Too many parents, we regret to say, are delivering their children too late to school . We are now considering registering the number of times late on students’ reports since we have seen no real improvement. Your comments about this are always welcome. |

ABSENCE FROM TESTS / TEST SCHEDULE
The school does not tolerate self-absenting during tests. Any student who misses a test must produce a doctor’s note to cover his absence. Delayed tests or re-tests are not an automatic occurrence. New tests scheduled for next half semester will be issued in January and will be rigidly adhered to . EXTERNAL EXAMS For Grade 12 and 13 students, the AS students exams begin on Wednesday, 10 January 2007. All students involved have been issued with their timetables. Exams will take place in the Basement Cafeteria . Students must come in complete, proper uniform and must be punctual. UNIFORM Brightly coloured shoes are not an accepted part of our school uniform. Also, boys’ hairstyles must be in accordance with school regulations – tidy and reasonably short. Long hair is not allowed. |
ACADEMIC REPORTS
Reports for the second half of the First Semester will be sent home at the end of the first week back at school after the mid-year holidays. PARENTS’ EVENINGS Please be reminded that Parents’ Evenings have been scheduled for Monday, 29 January & Tuesday, 30 January 2007. These sessions will start at 6:00 pm and last until 8:30 pm. Do, please, attend on one of these evenings if you can. HAPPY HOLIDAYS All good wishes to our entire school community for the Eid Al- Adha and New Year seasonal festivities and a happy, peaceful and relaxing mid year holiday to you all .
